Matthew 28:16-20

Sometimes our life feels like it is descending in a pocket of fog where you are doubting. We might be doubting God, His sovereignty, His power, or maybe even ourselves.

There are many examples in the gospels of those who doubted Jesus. Jesus Himself had doubt thrown at Him in the form of a satanic attack.

Followers of Jesus will have their doubts

Even the greatest of Christians will have their doubts - even those who have seen the amazing work of God in the world can doubt anything and everything.

Doubt is not the same as unbelief

The opposite of faith is unbelief. The opposite of knowledge and certainty is doubt. So when we doubt we don't stop believing we don't quite understand. We are never going to fully understand God and His plans, and this shows us we are lacking the knowledge.

At certain times we are more vulnerable to doubt. Our emotions in response to the world around us can cause us to doubt. Our intellectual confusion can also bring about doubt. Sometimes God's plan can be so confusing and we feel like we are going backwards.

Doubts can be the stepping stone to growth

In their doubt, Jesus came to them and showed them the way out. Overcoming our doubts through the Spirit and the Word can make us stronger, better Christians who are more mature in Christ. Our answers can be found in Jesus.

Jesus’ teaching in 18-20 can be very helpful in this.

See who Jesus is

V18 we see that Jesus has authority of the entire universe. That includes our doubts.

We have the king of kings holding us in His hands and so nothing can separate us from Him. As Paul said there is no power in the universe above that power.

Jesus is the 2nd part of the trinity. We might not understand that but we know He exists and one God. Look at the throne of glory when you are doubting and see Him.

Jesus is with us throughout all our doubts. Wherever we might be physically and spiritually He is with us.

Serve Jesus

Life as a Christian is not a consumer role. We don't just take in and learn. We have to us what we receive to serve Him. The first place to do this is to pass on. To create disciples of Jesus who also learn, serve, and pass on their faith.

Baptism is an important part of this. We are all spiritually baptised into the kingdom, then baptised physically into the church. We are now the body of Christ where we support and uphold each other. We teach and support each other to obey God's commands.

As our doubts are dissolved we are then free to worship Him with our lives.
